Teaching Creativity to Students in Design Classes, Saeed Niku, California Polytechnic State University
Can creativity be taught? Is it inherent or acquired? Regardless of the fundamental opinion that a faculty member may hold, it is possible to motivate students into becoming more creative and capable of thinking outside the box. I propose to present the methods that we use in teaching our students how to be more creative. This has been used in our classes for many years. These methods are not necessarily new, but are derived and adapted from many sources. Collectively, they make students think differently, more openly, and more creatively. Many of these methods are based on puzzles that force the student to realize why they do not think creatively. The workshop will include puzzles, short design activities, questions, and exercises.
