Engineering courses offered at Florida Tech have greatly enriched the students’ educational experience, broadened their perspectives, served as community outreach forums, and integrated experiential learning with academic programs. Seeded by NCIIA grants, courses in systems engineering entrepreneurship, technical marketing, high tech product strategy and technology commercialization strategies are offered successively over four semesters. As part of course requirements,
students work in E-Teams to commercialize innovative products or university/research lab-developed technologies. The
E-Teams seek funding by completing NCIIA E-Team proposals or SBIR/STTR proposals and presenting business plans at investor-attended
colloquiums. The Engineering Entrepreneur in the Spotlight seminar series is another innovative facet of the program. By drawing
parallels between systems engineering principles and engineering entrepreneurship processes, a unique Systems Engineering Entrepreneurship
program is being pioneered at Florida Tech.
