From Lab to License: Turning university intellectual property into commercial products
Sandra Miller & Tina Seelig,
Stanford University
This interactive workshop explores the process of turning valuable intellectual property into commercialized products within a university setting. We focus on a range of issues that arise in this complex process,
including conflict of interest, intellectual property ownership, faculty consulting, and sponsored research. The session draws upon real life case studies as well as exercises with the audience. A mock negotiation between a university technology transfer officer and a start-up company will elucidate the technology licensing process. The perspectives of various stakeholders, including faculty, the technology
transfer officer, the start up company, and venture capitalists are presented. |
