Chris Conley is professor and director of product design at the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He
holds degrees in mechanical engineering and product design. Conley has taught and worked professionally in the area of new
product innovation for fifteen years. His research interests are focused on design theory and methods. Within this focus he has
three core topics of interest. The first is how insightful criteria for design can be established from research into users, technology,
and business. The second is how to improve the quality of concepts an organization develops in response to insightful
criteria. The third is how prototyping of early concepts can improve evaluation, selection, and final definition of the concept to
be developed.
