Stephen J. Halpern is managing director of the von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement at the
University of California, San Diego. Halpern has over twenty-five years of cross-industry experience as an entrepreneur, senior
executive, educator and consultant to Fortune 100 and technology start-up companies. He has been a visionary in the commercialization
of cutting-edge technology to augment businesses and to create opportunities in a variety of industries. Halpern
was vice president of business development at Construction Bidboard, and was a co-founder of BioQ, a life sciences company.
At GTE’s entertainment unit, he headed up publishing operations and led their entry into interactive video games. Halpern has
been a pioneer in the integration of full-motion video into interactive education titles at Mediashare Inc. Halpern serves as an
executive board member of the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) and as a member of the IACUC
committee for the Salk Institute.
