Jawaharlal Mariappan is an associate professor of mechanical engineering at California State Polytechnic University at Pomona. Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, Mariappan founded and developed APlusStudent Inc., an online supplemental education company focusing on K-12 education, transforming it to a leading content provider. Mariappan also served as a faculty member at two institutions, Kettering University, MI (formerly known as General Motors Institute) and Rowan University, NJ. At Rowan, he was one of the early faculty members responsible for developing a new, multidisciplinary engineering program. He received the Rodes Professorship award for outstanding teaching, and was nominated for the ASEE Dove Outstanding Young Faculty Award. His work in developing an introductory level design course received an ASME Curriculum Innovation Award. Mariappan enjoys teaching and is always in search of ways to make learning meaningful, relevant, and engaging.
