Mary Beth Privitera is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Cincinnati, Colleges
of Engineering and Medicine. She is principal at Mad Design USA. Privitera has played a key role in the development and
implementation of UC’s Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program. She has fourteen years’ experience in medical
product development, including voice of customer needs assessment, usability studies, and performance verification. She
has specialized skills in design research, industrial design, usability testing and human factors evaluation of medical devices.
She has worked at Johnson & Johnson, Inc. and as a consultant for major medical device companies including Pfizer, Johnson
& Johnson, Baxter Healthcare, Alaris Medical Systems and Texas Instruments. She has been associated with more than thirty
product releases, and is co-holder of three patents with several IP disclosures underway at UC. Her current research topics
include the treatment and development of new devices for aortic aneurysms, hernia repair, intubation, and robotic surgery.
