Antenatal Screening Kit E-Team a Pop Sci invention of the year!

The plaudits keep rolling in for the new Antenatal Screening Kit E-Team from Johns Hopkins University.

Following its public debut at NCIIA's Open Minds 2011 showcase of student innovation, the team has been selected as a Popular Science 'Invention of the Year'. Read the story!

NCIIA has awarded a $16,000 E-Team grant to the team to further develop its innovative prototype screening kit that can be used to detect maternal health diseses in remote villages.

 

Are mushrooms the new plastic? And, survive a housefire....

Mushrooms and how they can save the planet... Eben Bayer of former E-team Ecovative Design spoke at the TED Conference in Oxford, England, about his company's great idea: Ecocradle, a biodegradable replacement for styrofoam. Watch Eben's talk.

It's National Fire Prevention Week. The Today Show called on Ryan O'Donnell of past E-team Bullex Digital Safety to help demonstrate how to escape from a burning house. See the clip.

Fast-growing EcoTech Marine ranked by Inc.com

Former E-Team EcoTech Marine has been ranked by Inc.com as one of its fastest-growing, privately held companies in the US.

EcoTech Marine, which manufactures water pumping products primarily for salt water reef aquariums using a patented technology, grew 995% in revenue between 2006 and 2009 and earned a ranking of 302.

As a student team at Lehigh University, EcoTech Marine received an E-Team grant in 2003 and incorporated the same year.

 

 

Venture Well East

STUDENTS! Take your Idea or Startup to the Next Level

Are you an undergraduate or graduate researcher, student inventor or budding entrepreneur? Venture Well East will set you on an inside track, through a series of workshops, that will accelerate your idea or venture towards funding and commercialization.

What's next? 20 teams (see the list) were selected for VentureLab, an intensive program to help tech entrepreneurs hone their market opportunities and map their commercialization paths.

What is Venture Lab anyway?

Venture Lab is a highly experiential and immersive program developed and designed to enhance the success of your business idea. Trying to balance all the things you have to do to get your business not just off the ground, but flying high, can be tough, and early stage entrepreneurs often know they could be doing things more effectively.

At Venture Lab you'll evolve your business strategy, get $500 seed money for your business, and, maybe, qualify for an NCIIA E-Team grant worth up to $20,000.

At Venture Lab you'll have the space to think and explore within a dynamic environment that will help you evolve your business strategy, sales channels and marketing as well as better understand the financial mechanics of your venture, helped by people who have been there and done it.

You'll come out of the program not only with a more competitive action plan, but also with a set of tools that will help you grow your business for years to come.

Please note if you are accepted there is a $100 fee to attend.

Advanced E-Team grants

 

E-Team grants support commercial outcomes by moving science and technology innovations from the idea stage to prototype and eventually to market.

An E-Team is a multidisciplinary group of faculty, students, and industry mentors working together to bring a product or technology to market the "E" stands for excellence and entrepreneurship.

Grantees have access to NCIIA's venture development workshops, mentoring, and a chance to participate in the annual Open Minds exhibition, which showcases breakthrough technologies from NCIIA's top student teams.

Advanced E-Team next submission deadline: May 4, 2012

  • Award Amounts: $1,000 to $20,000
  • Grant Period: 12 to 18 months
  • Who may apply: Students and faculty from NCIIA member institutions


Prepare your proposal

Strong E-Team grant proposals demonstrate:

  • Technical feasibility
  • Commercial potential with the ability to scale
  • Social impact and/or positive environmental impact
